The Rick Steves Convertible Carry-On is a very versatile bag. You can carry it as a suitcase with either the handle on its top, or the one on its right side. You may also choose to carry it as a shoulder bag with a single long strap provided for the purpose resting on one shoulder. Or, you may opt to use the two air-mesh lined curved shoulder straps and padded waist belt to carry it on your back. You don’t have to worry about having too many straps and belts hanging from the Convertible Carry-On. If you are using it as a suitcase, you can tuck the shoulder straps into the back panel.
The bag is made of high-density polyester that is water-resistant. It has three outside pockets for items you want to access quickly, such as a map or a digital camera. There is also one large side pocket that can accommodate a laptop. Inside the bag is a security pouch which you can use to store valuable and important items. This pouch is detachable so you can keep it on your body or in a safer place if available.
The main compartment provides a generous 2,500 cubic inch space for your clothes. In case this is still not enough, you can expand it to 3,500 cubic inches by simply pulling on a few zippers. It is fully opened from the front which makes packing and unpacking simple and hassle-free. It includes two compression straps that help keep your things compact and close to your body when carried as a backpack, and thus stabilizing your load. These are complemented by four external straps.
The bag measures 21 x 14 x 9 inches, the largest size that is acceptable as a carry-on luggage among airlines. Your choice of colors are black, spruce, and copper.
